Lenox/Camden Resident Updates

Project update as of December 2017

On-site work:  Beacon and its contractors have been visiting Lenox/Camden to collect information about the conditions at the property.  Since early 2017, Beacon has been investigating the existing conditions at Camden so that they can prepare a renovation proposal.  Beacon will begin to examine the existing conditions at Lenox in 2018.

Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) at Lenox: In the April 2016 meeting, we discussed our plan to submit a RAD application for Lenox, which is a federal-funded development.  RAD is a federal program that would allow BHA and Beacon Communities, our developer partner, to raise private funds to pay for the renovations at Lenox.  RAD will provide a stable source of funding to preserve the affordability of public housing units. We submitted a RAD application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on December 2, 2016.  In October 2017, we received a CHAP (Commitment to enter Housing Assistance Payment) from HUD which will allow us to move forward with next steps of the RAD conversion process.  We do not anticipate the Lenox RAD conversion to occur until 2019.

Camden: Since Camden is a state-funded housing development, we are looking to fund improvements there through state programs.

We do not expect the renovation work to begin at Camden until summer 2018 and Lenox is slated to begin in 2019.  For more information about the renovations at Lenox/Camden, please contact Amy Tran at 617-988-4316.
