General Description:

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of IT — Infrastructure, the Network and Video Administrator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and management of the Boston Housing Authority's ("BHA") data and voice networks, and video security systems. The Network and Video Administrator supports the day-to-day operation and performance of all network systems, including all network switches, routers, firewalls, and other telecomm devices; video security systems including hardware, server and software components; network management tools, and all networked multi-function devices. The Network and Video Administrator will be responsible for monitoring the utilization of BHA networks and video security systems; for analyzing network and video security system needs; and for presenting networking and video security system solutions to address these needs. In addition, the Network and Video Administrator will support the Director of IT in setting strategy and creating and implementing plans for the future configuration of the BHA's data and voice networks. The Network and Video Administrator may oversee network support staff. Work environment includes both office and field locations throughout the City of Boston.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists in engineering, setup and configuration for the LAN and WAN systems, including but are not limited devices from Juniper, HPE, Dell, Axis, and Mimosa.

  • Assists in engineering, setup and configuration for the camera subsystems, including but not limited to devices from Axis, Samsung, and Arecont.

  • Manages network and video security systems and monitors their performance.

  • Maintains the existing city-wide video security system, including cameras, servers, routers, and cabinets.

  • Works with IT staff and vendors to diagnose and resolve network and video security system problems.

  • Responds to network and video security system problems and restores functions as required.

  • Works with IT staff and vendors to implement upgrades to network and video security systems.

  • Forecasts needs for data and voice networks and video security systems.

  • Develops and implements data and voice network systems and video security systems to support BHA business needs.

  • May oversee network support staff.

  • Participates in BHA staff training as necessary.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

Must be knowledgeable about network switches, routers, firewalls, and other telecomm devices; network management tools and operating systems, including Windows, Cisco, and VMWare; networked multi-function devices; and bridging and routing architecture. Candidates must have experience with IP networking and video and access control, and be comfortable setting up IP networks, assigning IP addresses, and configuring and supporting video and security-related equipment. Candidates must have experience supporting video system users, and in the diagnosis and resolution of video system issues. Experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, and   Windows 10 is preferred. Candidate must possess strong communication skills and user support abilities. Candidate must be able to work both independently and as a part of a team of IT professionals. A valid driver's license is required. Candidates must have experience with IP networking and video and access control, and be comfortable setting up IP networks, assigning IP addresses, and configuring and supporting video and security-related equipment. Candidates must have experience supporting conventional analog fixed and PTZ cameras, IP based video encoders, IP based fixed and PTZ cameras and VMS recording servers and storage arrays. Experience with the troubleshooting of digital video management systems. Genetec Video Management Systems certification strongly preferred. Experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, and Windows 10 is preferred. Candidates must have experience in the diagnosis and resolution of user-oriented issues and technical issues
